Blu, a deaf pit bull mix pup, spent most of her young puppy years locked within one little room because her original family was unable to give her the care she needed. When she was surrendered to a much-too-crowded shelter, she wound up on death row.
Family Dog Rescue swooped in to save Blu just in time, but even after a year at the shelter, no one adopted her. The rescue was worried she would never find her forever home. But then, Sean Stevens came into the picture.
Stevens and his partner Marc were informed, when they arrived at the shelter, that Blu wasn’t visited often due to some behavioral problems that caused walking on a leash to be a little tricky.
Her deafness also deterred potential adopters, along with the fact that she wasn’t great at interacting with other pups due to overexcitement and an inability to hear their growls and barks.
But the moment Stevens and Marc laid eyes on Blu, they knew she was the perfect addition to their family. Her sweetness won them over, and they brought her home. But that’s when some trouble began.
Blu was very nervous. She refused to be separated from either of her Dads and couldn’t relax. Though she was getting better at long walks and spent time playing, she wouldn’t even look away from her parents – even when completely exhausted. She wouldn’t sleep until her Dads turned the lights off for her.
The couple wondered if Blu was so frightened that they would return her to the shelter that she wanted to watch them constantly. Now, Blu still has a long way to go. She’s over the moon every time she wakes up in bed and finds her Dads haven’t left her, and she still becomes anxious frequently.
But, little by little, she’s opening up and becoming calmer. She may be stubborn, but she’s loyal, loving, and becoming more vulnerable to her Dads – and they’re determined to help her heal from her troubled past.
