Dedicated Vet Saves Life Of A Pup Who Contracted Alabama Rot

For those dog parents that are unaware of the deadly disease called Alabama Rot, it’s best to learn all you can before it’s too late. This disease is incredibly rare and affects all types of animals, no matter the age, size, or breed.

Alabama rot is contracted on the paws or legs of dogs in mostly muddy or wooded areas. Unfortunately, in 2021 there have been a few confirmed Alabama Rot cases that have affected households.

Molly, a loving labrador, recently fell seriously ill after contracting a case of Alabama Rot. Most treatments are only successful in 10% of cases leaving the team at Anderon Moores, a specialist animal facility, not too confident. Molly came to them with limb swelling and deep, painful ulcers on her legs. After undergoing treatment, she slowly started to improve.

Two weeks later, Molly was discharged and taken home. The doctors say that due to their limited knowledge of this rare disease, treatment and recovery is often prolonged. Today, there is still no highly effective treatment because of the unknown causes that Alabama Rot stems from.

Luckily for Molly, her parents, and the doctors at Anderson Moores, this was a success story. The staff said that many families aren’t so lucky, and many pets have been lost to this intense disease. It is advised that dog owners around the world stay vigilant and seek needed advice from local vets if their dog’s health starts to change. Yes, this is a rare disease, but with cases creeping up around the world, it still needs to be taken seriously.
