Older dogs will start losing brain cells as they age, it is completely normal. But as the brain cells die, your pet may experience some behavioral changes like restlessness, lethargy, or disorientation. Depression is not unheard of in dogs, but it probably won’t be the same depression that people experience. Be on the lookout for changes in appetite, hiding, withdrawal, and excessive sleeping. These may be signs of depression – or another condition that the veterinarian needs to check out.
