Dog parents know that puppies do bark in the night simply because they’re trying to fit into the new environment, new house. When our dogs are little, they whine, bark and howl to communicate their needs and emotions to us, but how can you stop them from barking in the night?

If you’ve just adopted a puppy and they start barking in the night they might want to go potty, and if that’s not the case, they’re simply trying to adjust to the change in environment. Maybe they’re feeling lonely, and if that’s the case then with time they will get used to spending time alone at night. If neither is the case then maybe your puppy is telling you that they’re stressed.

The first thing to do is speak to your vet and find out if there are any health problems like UTI that makes your puppy bark in the night. Treating any medical conditions will help resolve your puppy’s barking issues. Separation anxiety is also a thing to consider and your puppy might be going through it – it’s best to ask your vet to help if that is the case. Having said that, here are some ways you can stop your puppy from barking in the night:

1. Teach them to love their beds by putting their favorite toys around it.
2. Ensure your puppy’s crate is free from noise pollution.
3. Don’t isolate your puppy in the night, help them feel comfortable by being closeby so they can see you whenever they please.
4. Establish and stick to a potty schedule.
