A disabled border collie, Zip, is an inspiration to many around the world due to her resilience and persistence. The dog was a Master Agility champion, who ran courses with her mom, Sue, until something happened one fateful day in 2011.
Zip was out playing fetch with her mom when she was hit by a car, suffering a broken back, fractured hip, and other internal injuries. The pup walked away with her life but lost the use of her back legs, putting a pause to her agility competition. After several weeks of receiving intensive care and therapy, Zip recovered, but the damage was done.
Zip got a wheelchair to help her move around and continued to work on her healing with Sue. It didn't take long before Zip started showing interest in agility courses again. Sue was more than to take her. So, she moved the course's bars to the ground, making it easy for Zip to zoom over them with her wheels.
With time and perseverance, Zip got used to the new agility courses and was ready to participate in competitions, despite her disability. Sue helped her get into competitions and shows, including the Glory Run for retired dogs.
Zip teaches us that with optimism and a positive can-do attitude, we can recover from adversity and live a meaningful life.
