Dog Gets A $10,000 Surgery After Swallowing A Drone

When Lindsey Williams noticed that her dog, Jada, was lethargic and vomiting, she decided to monitor her before seeing a vet. After 24 hours without improvements, she knew it must be serious.

Lindsey had recently lost her job and was worried that she wouldn’t be able to settle the vet bills. So she called several clinics to ask for help, but nothing came out of it. Eventually, she got lucky when she reached out to The Humane Society of Tampa Bay (HSTB) Animal Hospital.

Lindsey suspected that Jada must have eaten something she shouldn’t have but didn’t know what. Jada was X-rayed at the HSTB hospital, and they confirmed that something was stuck at the bottom of her stomach. It turned out that Jada ate a drone.

The hospital immediately arranged for Jada to go through emergency surgery. “If Jada had not had surgery, I’d say 24-48 hours, there probably would have been a hole in the intestines, which would have led to an infection in the abdomen and would have had a very poor prognosis,” Dr. Justin Boorstein said.

Thanks to the HSTB’s “Save a Pet Fund”, Lindsey didn’t pay a dime for the surgery, which costs up to $10,000 in other clinics. Jada made a full recovery and “is back to her little spunky self,” Lindsey said.
