As the peak of the novel coronavirus (or COVID-19) infection start slowing, lockdown restrictions are gradually eased. With time, certain small businesses are permitted to reopen, and businesses may resume.
Businesses will, however, certainly not be “business as usual”. New protocols and precautions will need to be followed, and these also apply to the dog grooming industry. There will be three main changes you can expect from your groomer, and these are as follows:
Social distancing between dogs and humans
New plastic dividers will be put in place and a further distance between groomer and dog will be established. Less groomers will work at a time and the space between them will increase to prevent the spread of the virus.
Procedure changes
The way in which grooming was previously done will most likely change. Payments will become electronic to avoid human to human contact. In addition, the groomers will now wash the dogs first before doing other procedures such as nail clipping.
Appointment schedule changes:
The new protocols allow fewer dogs at a time resulting in later appointment availability. You can expect to not get an appointment right away, and walk-in appointments may no longer be allowed.
These protocols may seem frustrating to many of us, as we are desperate to get our favorite furry-faced family members back to their pristine condition. However, it is important to remember that these changes are for the safety of our canine companions and the humans they come into contact with!
