Dog Leads Rescuers To His Dad Who Fell 70 Feet While Hiking

A border collie has once again proven why dogs are man’s best friend as he helped to facilitate the rescue of his injured dad in a remote part of the Sierra Nevada forest. The dog was on a hiking trip with his dad when his dad tripped and fell from around 70 feet, breaking his hip and several ribs.

According to a post the Nevada County Sheriff’s Search And Rescue shared on Facebook, the department deployed a search and rescue team to the scene when CalFire called them in to assist in finding the man. However, the mission was a success because of the dog.

In the post, the SAR department said the dog “ran through the forest approximately 200 yards and in true ‘LASSIE’ fashion to flag down two searchers and led them back to the subject which was covered in a camo tarp.”

Sgt. Dennis Haack with the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue likened the incident to scenes from a “movie” because the rescue team had to follow the dog to find the man. Thanks to the dog’s intelligence, the SAR team could find the man quickly and transport him in an air ambulance to a hospital for medical attention.

We pray he makes a quick recovery and reunites with his amazing dog.
