Dog Plays Hide-and-seek With Wild Raccoon Friends!

Dog Plays Hide-and-seek With Wild Raccoon Friends!

Seeing a wild raccoon in your yard can be a pretty intimidating sight. This was something Cheryl Stephen just had to get used to.

Cherly was gravely heartbroken by the sudden death of her German Shepherd, Serge. The two shared a strong bond and she never imagined another dog could ever fill those shoes. He was her best friend, and he was gentle with other animals who he came across.

As she healed from the loss, she thought it would be a great idea to rescue another dog. This young Cordi was named Chief and he had a kind and gentle soul. His mom was not sure he was capable of managing the bustling wildlife presence in her yard, but he managed to surprise her in the end.

Sarge, her former dog, got along great with fawns. For Chief, raccoons were his best friends. This all started last year when Cheryl raised a trio of orphaned raccoons. When they were old enough, she returned them to the wild, but they would still come to visit when they needed help or just wanted a snack. One raccoon named Magnolia even brought her babies back to the house. Chief fell in love with them almost immediately.

Chief is much bigger than the raccoons, but he is very gentle. They play together well and he has never bitten or hurt any of them. He reminds her of Sarge in that way. The four baby raccoons play hide-and-seek in the yard with Chief regularly to his mom’s surprise since they seem to understand each other clearly.

They play with each other, wrestle together, roll on top of each other and eat together. It’s almost as if Chief thinks he’s a raccoon or the babies don’t realize that he’s a dog. We’re just happy they all get along.
