A 15-year-old Chihuahua mix-breed named, King, was brought to the Humane Society of Broward County (HSBC) by a woman last October. What would have been a harrowing experience for any dog turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
After being scanned for microchip, the brown Chihuahua was discovered to be reported missing for six years. His family, the Vasquezs, live in San Antonio, Texas, 1,300 miles away. King’s family had posted on social media, sent fliers, and visited local shelters in search of him. After six long years of hoping, never letting go of King’s collar, their wish was finally granted.
The HSBC staff called the Vasquez home and left a voice message, explaining that King had been found and waiting for them at the shelter. They rejoiced over the news that King was alive and safe and returned the call within an hour, saying that they’re going to drive over from Florida to reunite with King.
They’d found that Texas-Florida flights were scheduled at the week’s end, so they opted to brave the 19-hour drive. Upon seeing his mom, Debi, walk in, King appeared shocked and nervous as lots of people watched. Debi started sobbing after the initial shock of seeing King. To mark the reunion, the reunited family headed to Dania Beach, where King finally relaxed and was seen frolicking and interacting with his family.
After six long years, King finally found where he truly belonged.
