If you’ll be away from home, you’ll need someone to look after your dog. But should you hire a dog sitter, or should you send them to a kennel? Here’s an overview of each option!
Dog Sitter
Here are some things to consider in regards to dog sitting:
1. Temperament
Dogs with anxiety or who don’t take well to new locations will likely not do well in a kennel, where they will be surrounded by other dogs, unfamiliar people, and a new environment full of strange and unusual scents.
2. Trust
You need to be able to trust the person who is dog sitting if they’ll be doing so at your home. You have to know for sure that this person will take good care of both your dog and your home.
3. Price
Dog sitting will typically cost more than a kennel fee because it’s a personal, one-on-one effort. However, this price does come with peace of mind for you and gives you more control over the environment.
Kennel
Here are some things to consider in regards to kenneling:
1. Exposure To Others
If your dog isn’t well socialized, being exposed to other animals in kennels can cause them some stress. They will also need up-to-date vaccinations and preventative care to stay safe.
2. Unfamiliar Location
A kennel is a new and potentially frightening place to a dog. But a well-socialized dog may enjoy having other dogs to play with.
3. Comfortable and Luxurious
When you board your dog in a kennel, you’re basically sending them off on a nice hotel trip, and they’ll be waited on hand and foot (or paw and paw!)
