Dogs get themselves stuck in the darndest places sometimes. Other times they are placed there by cruel humans.
Well, it’s certainly not every day that you hear that a dog has been stuck inside a wall, certainly not in Cincinnati. The fire department responded to a call about a dog stuck inside a wall and quickly dispatched a unit to the scene. It was their quick thinking and decisiveness that ultimately saved this dog’s life.
This dog was missing for roughly five days. He was nowhere to be found and his family had been worried the entire time. Little did they know that their beloved dog was suffering the ordeal of a lifetime.
When the firefighters arrived at the home, they realized that the dog had fallen down a crevice. This resulted in the dog being wedged between two concrete walls with no way out. There was no way to pull the dog safely out and the decision was made to smash through.
The wall was opened with a sledgehammer and Jenny Atkins, a firefighter on duty, led the scared dog who we later learned was named Gertie out of the wall. She was quite shaken up but was happy to finally be free from the dark, tight prison in which she had found herself.
It is believed that Gertie was stuck inside the walls for five days without food and water when she was thought to be missing. Her family is happy to have her back and will be keeping a very close eye on her from now on. They are also grateful for the assistance of the firefighters who responded.
