Being a parent is not for everyone, certainly not this careless woman who put his dog in danger. A dog parent’s first priority should always be their dog’s safety.
It was around 96 degrees Fahrenheit at the time of the incident, or around 35 degrees celsius meaning it was pretty hot. The police received a criminal complaint around 5 pm on June 29 relating to a dog locked in a vehicle on East Carson Street.
By the time the authorities arrived, the dog was still alive, but very much in danger. The windows of the car were barely rolled down and there was not enough air circulation for the dog to properly breathe. The Yorkie was trying to avoid the scalding heat of the sun by hiding underneath one of the car seats.
Unable to locate the owner of the vehicle at the moment, the responding officers broke one of the windows and were able to retrieve the scared dog. They then placed the dog in front of the air conditioning unit so that he could cool down. The quick thinking of the officers perhaps saved the Yorkie’s life. Now it was time to uncover the circumstances that led to this incident.
The police were able to locate the owner of the vehicle. She was coming back from swimming at the public pool. The police returned her dog and a summons was issued for one, Miyah Grant.
She potentially faces a charge of cruelty to animals. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for November.
