It was a seemingly normal day, and Laura was heading towards her school. On the way, she noticed an American Akita ties to a tree in someone’s yard, and she couldn’t help but stop and pet her.
From their first interaction, it was clear that the pup, Takia, was lonely and neglected, seeing as she was covered in mud. She was desperate to get even the tiniest bit of attention from Laura. Eventually, Laura had to continue walking towards the school, but she made it her mission to stop the next day and check on Takia. And that’s exactly what she did.
The next day, Laura was back, and she noticed that Takia didn’t seem to have any food near her. That made Laura call animal control. After that call, she learned that Takia had been tied to that tree for almost five years, and nobody did anything about her living conditions. The person who was supposed to be her parent didn’t want to care for her, but they didn’t want to give them to someone who would care either.
Seeing as there was nothing more that Laura could do, she left and had to accept that she could only help Takia by giving her toys and food. But Laura had to leave for over a month in the summer, and when she came back, Takia had developed an ear infection. She called animal control again and this time they rescued her.
Takia got the medical attention she needed, and she remained in Laura’s care. After a hard life tied to the tree, she got a second chance at life.
