Experts Reveal That Dogs Judge Humans When They're Being Rude!

Have you ever wondered if our dogs have some kind of morality system? As this recent research shows, the answer is yes – they do!

Wait, Why Is This Even A Question?

Here’s the thing – studies have shown that babies from as young as a year old already have some kind of innate morality in place. So then came the question – are dogs capable of making that sort of judgment, just like human babies?

How’d They Do It?

Here’s how they set it up:

  • Get the dogs to watch owners struggling opening a container.
  • Have 3 actors come in. One actively helps, another passively watches, and one who refuses to help.
  • Observe what happens when the actors try giving the dogs treats later.

Results?

The dogs didn’t really seem to have any issues taking treats from both the helper and the passive bystander. However, they showed a clear preference between the passive actor and the actor who refused to help, proving that they know exactly what’s up.

This Is Fascinating!

It really is! This study by a team from Kyoto University proves that dogs (and monkeys, who had performed similarly) have an internal morality system that’s similar to human babies. So even if they don’t understand why or how something is wrong, they can still evaluate and hold humans to a moral standard!
