Family Crushes Dog's Dream As They Change Their Mind About Adopting Him

Cody, a dog who has spent almost his entire life at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) shelter, had his dream of moving in with a new family crushed.

The family had been coming to the shelter for months to familiarize themselves with him. Everything was going well until the family changed their mind. “We were absolutely gutted when Cody’s adoption fell through the day he was due to be picked up,” Sarah Welham, kennel supervisor at the RSPCA’s Martlesham Animal Centre, said in a press release.

Cody struggles with finding a forever home due to his challenging behaviors, such as being reactive towards strangers, dogs, and some vehicles. “He finds strangers frightening, but once he gets to know you, his true soppy side comes out! He’s super affectionate and really playful. He absolutely loves his toys and will often greet you with one in his mouth while his whole body wags with excitement!” Welham said.

Cody needs a patient family that can help him build his confidence or a quiet home in a rural area without too much excitement around. Despite his quirks, he’d be a fabulous addition to any family willing to give him a chance.

Although the shelter is devastated that the adoption fell apart at the last minute, they are not giving up on Cody and have started looking for new opportunities for him. If you’re living in the UK and are willing to take Cody home, you can contact the RSPCA for more information.
