Famous Dachshunds
Dachshunds are known to have big personalities and that is what makes them so entertaining – even if they just entertain your family and friends! However, some dachshunds take their entertainment beyond the home and have made themselves famous around the world. Meet some of the biggest celebrities of the doxie world!
Crusoe
Crusoe, also known as “the celebrity dachshund”, is a black and tan miniature doxie and the proud winner of the 2013 and 2014 Best Pet Blog issued by the Weblog Awards. This pup is named after the famous adventurer Robinson Crusoe and has the video blogs to prove it! Crusoe’s videos range from the adventures of his alter ego Batdog to cooking shows and even “Dogctor” Crusoe. Crusoe had his celebrity breakthrough after he appeared on television for winning best trick at a dachshund event. Since then, his following exploded. He travels frequently to exotic locations and often to Ottawa to visit his half-brother, Oakley (who plays Batdog’s sidekick, Robin). Obie
Obie became famous in 2012 when he was rescued after being overfed by his elderly owners for 6 years. Weighing in at an astounding 77 lbs, employees at the Oregon Dachshund Rescue assumed they were receiving a basset hound and were then shocked to realize the obese dog was in fact a doxie. Since his rescue, Obie was put on a special diet and continues to lose weight. The average weight for a full grown standard doxie is 16 – 32 lbs, meaning Obie was more than double the normal weight! Since gaining attention in the media, Obie has received thousands of dollars in donations to help aid in his rehabilitation. Milo
Milo the dachshund became famous in 2013 after a video of him and his best friend, a disabled lion named Bonedigger, went viral on the internet. The 500 lb lion has a rare metabolic bone disease, leaving him crippled. Milo, the 11 lb doxie, decided he would become Bonedigger’s best friend. The pup even cleans the giant lion’s teeth with his tongue! Milo and his three doxie siblings love to hang with Bonedigger, whether it’s taking a tap on the lions back or receiving a friendly lick by Bonedigger’s dachshund sized tongue. Hallie
Hallie was a blind dachshund with a big heart who had a love for painting. A rescue herself, all of the proceeds from Hallie’s paintings go to the Purple Heart and other dog rescues. In 2010, Hallie lost her vision due to SARDs, an autoimmune disease common to the breed. This diagnosis however did not stop her from learning new things, like how to paint with her mom who is also a painter herself. Hallie unfortunately passed on December 24, 2014, but her memory lives on through her paintings. Learn more about Hallie and see her artwork at www.hallieart.com/.
