Fearful Dog Rescued From Dog Fighting Ring Finds New Home

This past summer, more than 80 dogs were rescued by ASPCA and local law enforcement from a dogfighting ring. The dogs were rescued on Long Island, New York, and several other states.

One of the locations had a dark basement where unsocialized dogs were kept with no food or water. Among those dogs was a Pit Bull mix, now named Wish, who was extremely fearful.

Wish was taken to the ASPCA Behavioral Rehabilitation in Weaverville, North Carolina, where they focus on helping severely fearful dogs. Although the pup could easily warm up to anyone he met, he was more scared of his new environment and often sat in a corner.

After seven weeks of working on his confidence, Wish became comfortable visiting new places and was sent to a foster home. He socialized with other dogs and even a cat there, proving that he was prepared for a forever home.

A couple devastated after losing one of their three dogs and wanted to adopt a new dog to help fill the void, Mike and Lauren, reached out to Wish’s foster parent. They set a meeting, and the adoption went through.

Wish quickly got along with the couple’s two dogs and warmed up to his new home. The couple hopes Wish’s adoption story will encourage others to adopt dogs regardless of their past.
