Losing a beloved dog who has been part of the family for years can be traumatic and heart-breaking. We often feel we perhaps shouldn’t show our grieving process to others, as not everybody feels the same connection as we do to our dogs.
But the truth is, we as dog lovers have every right to express how we are feeling and what we have gone through without feelings of guilt and embarrassment. The story of Greg and his beloved pup Bella is refreshing and shows us that we have no reason to hide anything!
Greg is a firefighter and Bella was his best friend. They went on adventures together and Bella was an important part of Greg’s life. At one point, Bella was not doing well and when Greg took her to the vet, he received news that we all dread to hear. Bella was diagnosed with cancer. Being a rescue pup, Bella had a profound impact on Greg’s life, and having her ill was heartbreaking for him.
After a battle with cancer, Bella passed away peacefully in the arms of her beloved human parent. Left behind heartbroken, Greg dealt with his grief through expression. He took to the social media platform Twitter and expressed what he went through and how he was feeling, posting pictures of their adventures and experiences too. In doing this, he helped himself through the natural grieving process, but also impacted those of us out there who had experienced a similar loss.
Finally, if youve come this far in this thread, please watch this short clip.
Since her diagnosis 4 months ago, I’ve said this poem to Bella on every walk we’ve taken.
As I held her last night, before she slipped away, I told her once more, “heart to chest.”
Goodbye my friend. pic.twitter.com/sWuH4cZtYo

The story of Greg and Bella is living proof that there are others out there who have dealt with the losses we have, and we need to be ashamed to reach out to them or express what we are going through either!
