For years, Negro served as a loyal firefighting dog for the Iquique Fire Department in Chile. Living among first responders, the pup brightened everyone’s mood, made quiet, empty hours fun and interesting, and helped boost the morale of the officers during their stressful work.
Sadly, after a while of health issues, the pup passed away at the age of 14. But his firefighter family couldn’t let him pass away without honoring his contributions to them.
They instated him an honorary firefighter and held a special funeral for the wonderful pup, treating him as they would any other officer.
After an honorary guard funeral, Negro’s casket was carried out with his fellow firefighters walking astride him. He was laid to rest in a nearby plot, with a tree planted right next to him in order to better honor his memory.
His colleagues have truly felt his loss and genuinely loved the little pup, and it really shows in their thoughtfulness for him. A framed picture of Negro now hangs in the fire department’s walls, with an image caption that names Negro the pet, friend, and protector of the officers.
This touching story is sure to make you shed a few tears. Rest in peace, pup! We’re sure he’s waiting for his friends on the Rainbow Bridge.
