When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got married in 2018, I doubt it meant anything to Pula. After all, she was just another rescue dog wondering if she will ever get a forever home.
But, what the black Labrador did not realize was that the royal wedding was part of a domino effect that would transform her life. Harry and Meghan adopted her shortly after their marriage. And ever since then, the dog has played a background role in the couple’s life. Well, until recently when she appeared on set as Meghan was being interviewed by legendary activist Gloria Steinem at Meghan’s new home in Montecito California.
“Wants to be on Camera,” Steinem said jokingly. Pula was accompanied by her dog brother Guy when they crushed the interview.
According to the couple, Pula was named after the currency of Botswana. The couple had a romantic vacation to the African country before getting married and clearly, it struck a chord in them. Harry has previously stated that Botswana was like a refuge to him in the years following his mother’s death.
It’s also where he bought the central diamond in the ring he used to propose to Meghan. Their other dog, Guy, is a beagle and has been with Meghan ever since her days in the television series, Suits. Guy now spends his time playing with the couple’s one-year-old kid, Archie.
Before being taken in by Meghan, Guy was living in a shelter and was almost euthanized for failing to get a forever home. At that bleak moment, I doubt Guy ever imagined that one day he would be in the same car as Queen Elizabeth II and also the guest of honor at a royal wedding.
An avid dog lover, Meghan had another dog named Bogart whom she rescued from a shelter in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, he was determined to be too old to go with Meghan when she relocated to the UK to be with Harry. He wouldn’t have made the trans-Atlantic journey. So, Meghan gave him up to one of her friends in Canada.
