At first glance, Grinch looked like a statue in the shelter in South Texas. He had no hair and his skin was very grey and full of scabs. Right away, he was given special care because he was in critical condition.
The shelter contacted Rescue Dogs Rock NYC immediately and they were shocked by the state he was in. They could not even tell his breed, but one thing was certain: he had lived a life of suffering. Something had to be done, and fast.
His skin looked like he had been turned to stone, so one of the first things they did was to address that issue. They also diagnosed him with other issues and brought him to a healthy weight. After a few weeks, Grinch was well enough to travel to a foster home in the Northeast. It took him a while to adjust since he was traumatized from being homeless alone. While he was better physically, he bore mental scars and was nervous around people and other dogs.
With help from his foster mom, he slowly began to warm up to people and he even regained his hair. He made tons of friends and became confident. He now enjoys playing ball and running around to play with others.
Grinch’s miraculous transformation took around five months. At first, he could have been mistaken for a statue, now this shepherd-Malinois mix has a big personality and a loving home.
He is living proof that once a dog is given the proper love and care, they can make a change, no matter how rough of a life they had. All they need is love and care, just ask Grinch!
