Golden Retriever Joins Local Police Force To Comfort Elderly & Kids

The Gloucester Police Department in Massachusetts has recently welcomed its newest canine member, Ace, a one-year-old English golden retriever who is tasked to provide comfort and de-escalation support to children, particularly those on the autism spectrum (including ADD and ADHD), and kids with other behavioral challenges.

Apart from acting as the comfort dog to the said children, Ace will also provide needed support and assistance to kids who have been traumatized or are currently experiencing trauma, while also, serving the senior patients in the local nursing homes and nearby elderly facilities of Gloucester city.

Prior to his assignment at the local police department, the comfort pup has been cared for by a foster family, and afterward, undergone proper training as a comfort dog with the Walpole’s Golden Opportunities for Independence.

Upon completion of his training, the English-breed pup was, then, assumed into the force as the canine assistant of the Gloucester Police Department. In the coming week, the Massachusetts local police force will be hosting a donation event to mark Ace’s new posting and pay tribute to his contribution to the local police force.

With Ace’s uncanny ability to help those in need of comfort and emotional support, especially children with special needs and senior patients, the police department as well as Ace’s extended family are positive that the young golden retriever will be a beneficial addition not only to the local police force but also to the community.
