Golden Retriever Lost After Car Crash Makes It Home 18 Months Later!

For a year and a half, Murphy was on the run. He was riding in a car with his owner, Ed Hamel’s granddaughter when the car was involved in an accident. Unfortunately, at the time of the accident, Murphy got lose and ran from the scene. His family searched for him and got calls with sightings of Murphy, but he was nearly impossible to catch. He wouldn’t come when called and was too smart for the humane traps that were set out for him.

Experts say it’s not unusual for dogs to refuse to come when called when they’re on the run. The go into survival mode and it’s not that they don’t want to be with their families, it’s that they’re just doing whatever it takes to survive in that moment.

Murphy’s family persisted and after 18 months or 599 days to be exact, Murphy was finally caught in a humane trap by a kind neighbor who spotted him near his home. Incredibly, Murphy’s family reports he appears to be in good health but will be taking a trip to the vet for a checkup and getting a much-needed bath.
