After 2 Years Apart Golden Retriever Reunites With Army Staff Sergeant!

They call them man’s best friend for a reason! It’s because through thick and thin, life and death, there is no love, affection, or loyalty like that of a dog.

Gillan the golden retriever served side by side with her buddy in the military. She was a bomb-sniffer in Afghanistan and after coming back to the states, she was adopted by a private contract company along with several other dogs who in a sad turn of events, abandoned them at a Virginia kennel. Mount Hope Kennel wasn’t about to turn them out on the street though. They cared for the dogs for 17 months before connecting with a group called Mission K-9 Rescue who works to adopt out retired military dogs, ideally with their previous handlers.

Gillan’s handler had been looking for her over the years. He had checked in only to hear she had been adopted or was still working, but finally, one day he got the Facebook message of a lifetime. Gillan was not working and she needed a home. He jumped at the chance.

At the Hobby Airport, after two years apart, two veterans reunited in the most beautiful way.

Gillan went home with her old partner who reports she will have a large fenced yard and tennis balls to play with. We are so happy to see these two reunited.
