Have You Ever Wondered Why Dogs Lick Your Feet?

Licking. The wet, ticklish sensation our pups provide that we are all too familiar with! But why do dogs love to lick us? Well, according to science, there are a variety of reasons behind their madness!

• Licking your feet: as gross as this may sound, your dog may be licking your feet to gain as much information about you as possible. A dog, unlike a human, has a specialized sensory organ at the top of its mouth, allowing it to experience various sensations in combination with smell and taste. This provides more information about the subject at hand.
• Licking your face: licking your face is one way in which our canine companions display affection. Because they also communicate through licking, your precious pooch may genuinely just be showing you love!
• Licking their own paws: generally speaking, dogs lick their own paws to clean themselves. If you notice unusual excessive licking, you may want to take a closer look and make sure there is not something else going on with your four-legged family member’s paw.
• Licking things around the house: most often, the licking of a toy or object is a way of showing affection. If you find your dog licking a rug or specific spot on your couch, he most likely smelled something and is after the taste! Oops!

There are also other reasons as to why your pooch licks. It can be pure boredom, an attempt to gain your attention, or your canine companion might be experiencing stress and anxiety. Licking is harmless, so there is no need to panic when you notice your dog licking!
