Bella the German shepherd pup was found skinny and almost entirely hairless wandering along a Lancaster highway in Pennsylvania. No one knew what had happened to her, but it’s safe to say she’d been through a lot of hardship.
A Good Samaritan was able to stop their car and get Bella into their car – something the pup was very eager to do! – after which she was taken to the local SPCA, who then moved her to the Char-Wills German Shepherd Rescue.
Bella was extremely happy to be surrounded by humans at long last, but above all else, she was overjoyed when she was given what was likely the first toy she had ever owned: the quintessential tennis ball.
Her whole body lit up in excitement when she was given it, and from then on, she always wanted to dash around while holding the toy!
Staff at the rescue guess that the eight-year-old pup may have been abandoned due to her skin issues. There’s also a chance that she was a breeding dog, too.
At 20 pounds below her healthy weight and unspayed, she has a lot of recovering to do, but she’s enjoying plenty of good meals and snacks and beginning to heal. Staff are hopeful that the medicine she is taking will help her fur regrow fully.
Right now, Bella, lives in a foster home full of lots of fellow dog and cat siblings as she recovers. In a few months, she would have been ready to move to a new home – but her foster family is internet on adopting her themselves!
Despite all the neglect she’s been through, Bella is friendly, trusting, and very loving and sweet, and she’s just thrilled to have toys she can call her own and a big family to love.
