Thinking of games to play with your puppy? Here are four awesome options!
Fetch
This much-loved game is a great way to teach your dog to come when called. This can even eventually lead to them learning to fetch items for you! To teach fetch, throw a toy, encourage your dog to run after it, and then call them enthusiastically to coax them to come back! Praise them when they drop the toy or give it to you.
Find The Toy
A great mental exercise that trains tracking, cognitive skills, and scent detection, this game involves hiding a toy of some kind around the house. Choose a command to use only for the game; “find” works well! Start by hiding the toy while they are watching you, then give them the command. Praise them when they find it. Increase the difficulty of finding the toy gradually.
Tug-of-War
Hold your dog’s toy and offer it to them. Tug it back and forth, and make a big show of it to encourage them! Enforce rules, such as no biting or grabbing, and end the game as soon as they break the rules. Praise your dog and give them the toy when they win without breaking a rule.
Agility Games
These types of games usually involve an obstacle course. Use a treat to lure your dog through different obstacles. This is a great way to get them moving and increase exercise!
