Fleas aren’t just annoying. They can also be dangerous, so you need to protect your dog from these pests.
Here are 5 ways to do that:
Medication
Dog flea pills and other similar forms of flea preventative care can be administered to a dog. Keep an eye out for a negative reaction to the medication and follow exactly the instructions given by your vet. Incorrect dosage can cause severe health problems.
Flea Collar
These collars must be the perfect size for your pup and should also be effective without being unsafe by causing rashes or irritation. Make sure you can fit two fingers between your pup’s neck and the collar.
Topical Care
Flea and tick prevention can also come in the form of topical applicants. It should be applied 24 hours before you need it to be effective, right between the shoulder blades of your pup. Keep an eye out for negative reactions, too. Reapply as instructed.
Natural Methods
Vets are divided on homeopathic methods of flea protection. Ask your vet about options and, if approved, use them according to instructions while monitoring your dog for bad reactions.
Flea Shampoo
This kind of shampoo can be all natural, herbal, or even medicated depending on needs. Wash your pup with warm water, then apply the shampoo evenly, lathering well. Allow to sit as instructed, rinse off, and then monitor your dog for irritation. Use again as instructed.
