We trust our veterinarians to give us good advice and sound medical opinions. But did you know there are some things that they will not tell us?
Below are five things your veterinarian will probably not tell you – but you need to know.
- You are responsible for how your pet behaves. Animals learn by watching an reacting. Most of the animals surrendered to shelters each year have not gotten any form of obedience training. It is up to you as a pet parent, to teach your dog how to behave.
- Some pets do not need all vaccines each and every year! Vaccines are not one size fits all. Be sure your veterinarian is doing a risk assessment for each of your pets to make sure they are only getting the ones they need.
- You make your dog overeat! An overweight pet is just as troubling as an overweight person. A dog that maintains a healthy weight, on average, lives nearly two years longer than one who is overweight! An obese dog probably lives with an obese person. Your dog doesn’t really get to choose what they eat, they eat what you give them. Make healthy choices for them to keep them at a healthy weight.
- You are to blame. When it comes to things like heartworm, fleas, internal and external parasites. There is no excuse – take care of your pets the right way!
- An unleashed dog can be a hazard. Accidents will happen. Keeping your dog off leash is inviting disaster!
