No one wants their dog to have cancer. Catching it early can be the key to treatment. Here are 5 warning signs to look out for.
Appetite Change
A dog who once loved food but has now lost interest in it could be dealing with a health problem. Any appetite change is usually a cause for a vet visit, anyway!
Strong Bad Odor
Even after you’ve bathed your dog, they still seem to smell foul. This can be a sign of cancer, as some varieties of this disease lead to a certain yucky stench in dogs.
Lumps
Many dogs have bumps and lumps that are harmless, but new growths should always be looked at by a vet. To make sure you’re aware of changes to your dog’s body, give them weekly massages. This will give you a chance to feel for any lumps (and bond!).
Slow-Healing Wounds
An open wound that is taking much longer than normal to properly heal can be a sign of cancer, among other diseases like diabetes.
Pain
Your dog usually is active and energetic, but recently they seem to be slower, more sensitive to touch, disinterested in climbing up and down things, limping, or showing another sign of pain. This is always a cause for a vet trip.
While these symptoms do not necessarily point to cancer, it is always a good idea to see a vet when in doubt!
