Does your dog hate baths? Here are 8 ways to get the cleaning done anyway!
Make Sure The Temperature Is Right
If it’s too hot or too cold, your dog may just not want to get in at all.
Make It Non-Slip
Get a non-slip mat or simply lay a towel down on the floor of the bathtub or shower area to prevent slipping. This slippery texture could be what’s ticking your dog off.
Don’t Use The Faucet or Showerhead
These can be quite noisy and, therefore, nerve-wracking for a dog. Use a bucket or just fill the tub with water.
Use A Groomer
If you really can’t get your dog to cooperate, get the professionals to do the job!
Use Mild Shampoo
What smells nice to use could be ridiculously overpowering and overwhelming to a dog’s sensitive and strong sense of smell.
Only Bathe Indoors
Outdoor hoses spew cold water and are surrounded by things that could make a dog nervous. Stick to indoor baths.
Take It Slow
Desensitize your dog in stages. First, reward them for approaching the tub, then for standing in it while dry, then for staying in a full bathtub for a minute, and so on.
Give Them A Distraction
Put peanut butter, baby food, or something else they like on the wall for your dog to lick while you work on cleaning them.
