Vaccinations are important for dogs to keep them safe from preventable but potentially deadly diseases. Here is a list of the vaccinations your dog may need.
Core Vaccinations (Mandatory)
1. Parvovirus
A puppy will receive this vaccination at the age of 5 weeks, and they will need an adult booster later.
2. Rabies
All dogs aged 12 weeks must receive this vaccination. Some states require extra shots every few years.
3. Canine Distemper
At between 12 and 16 months old, a puppy will receive this shot, which will be among the last.
4. Hepatitis
This vaccination provides more than a year of immunity, and a vet determines when your dog should receive it.
Other Vaccinations (Optional Depending On Where You Live)
1. Parainfluenza
Dogs from kennels or who will be show dogs will likely need this.
2. Lyme Disease
Dogs who spend a lot of time around areas which may have ticks (such as grassy locations) will likely need this.
3. Measles
Many dogs get this vaccination when they are between 4 and 10 weeks old.
4. Coronavirus
This rare virus may not be likely, but it’s still very contagious and can wreak havoc on the intestinal tract.
5. Respiratory Disease from Canine Adenovirus-2
This is basically a flu shot for dogs and has to be given annually.
6. Leptospirosis
If you live in a rural area, your dog may need this.
