Here's How To Properly Potty Train Your Puppies

Potty training your puppy is pretty important, especially since cleaning up after them does not get any easier! Read on for some tips you can use in potty training your puppy over the next two weeks.

Week One

  1. Let Them Out Regularly. Make sure your puppy gets to go potty at least every 2 hours. Empty bowels mean no chance of accidents.
  2. Get To Know Your Puppy. Learn when they need to go before they get into trouble, to keep accidents at a minimum.
  3. Keep An Eye On Them. Taking your eyes off them for even a moment is enough time for your puppy to have an accident.
  4. Lavish Praise On Them. Encouragement when they relieve themselves outside lets them know that this is wanted behavior.

Week Two

  1. Clean Accidents Thoroughly. Dogs are inclined to follow smells and reuse the same spots for relieving themselves. Removing all traces will discourage further use.
  2. Be Understanding. Your puppy’s bladder and bowels are tiny. They can only hold it in for so long.
  3. Keep Encouraging Them. No matter how silly it feels, they need to know going potty outside is the best thing in the world, and that it makes you incredibly happy.

Conclusion

Potty training can be difficult, and it is often an experience fraught with all sorts of mishaps. Your puppy won’t get it perfect the first time, and that’s okay!
