Here's What You Need To Know About Caring For Your Dog's Paws

Keeping a dog’s paws healthy is important to their mobility and overall health. Here’s how to do so.

Know Their Paws

Get used to handling your dog’s paws, checking the pads and toes, and know how they feel and look. Keep an eye out for bumps, splinters, infections, cuts, and other abnormalities.

Do Regular Examinations

Check your dog’s paws once a week for any signs of abnormalities. Better yet, incorporate them into grooming sessions!

Mind The Heat

Hot weather can quickly turn asphalt into something that could burn your dog’s sensitive paws. Keep them indoors on very hot days and, if they must leave the house, give them booties or socks.

Mind The Cold

Very cold surfaces can also lead to paw injury in dogs. Use dog boots for snow-covered sidewalks, avoid chemical or salt-treated sidewalks unless your dog is wearing booties, and stay off the path if everything is slippery ice.

Keep Out Of Rough Terrain

Extreme territories pose hazards to humans and dogs alike. Sharp rocks, slippery areas, and too-tough terrain could injure your dog. Make sure your dog has the necessary protective gear.

Use Dog-Friendly Items

If you’re treating minor cuts or wounds, make sure the products you use are 100% dog-safe.

Address Problems Quickly

Notice something wrong with your dog’s paws? Address it as soon as possible and speak to a vet if necessary.
