Losing a dog is an incredibly painful experience. You will grieve, cry, be angry, and face difficulties as you attempt to recover from the situation.
Here are 6 things you can do if you miss your dog:
1. Find Things To Do
Volunteer at a shelter or rescue organization, donate items to them, or find other similar altruistic activities. These can help you feel useful and pay it forward to dogs in need.
2. Cherish Memories
Remember all the amazing times you shared with your dog. Put up photos, look through videos, and reminisce.
3. Talk It Out
Speak to a friend, family member, trusted person, or mental health professional about your pain. You can also seek out support groups or online communities.
4. Accept That Your Emotions Are Valid
It’s normal to grieve the loss of a loved one, and your dog was a very close loved one. Being in denial may just harm you.
5. Don’t Blame Yourself
Don’t blame yourself for what could have been done. You did what you believed was best for your dog, and it’s time to focus on the good times.
6. Get A New Dog
When you’re ready to move on and you miss having a dog at home, go and adopt a new dog. They won’t replace your passed away canine companion, but they will let you create space in your heart for more love.
