Time to design your house! But have you considered your dog when choosing a floor type?
Should I Care?
Yes. Research has proven that certain types of flooring can actually cause all sorts of injuries in the long run. Additionally, dogs actually have preferences, and can be mentally affected by the flooring types they walk on!
What Should I Keep In Mind When Choosing A Floor?
Here are some checkboxes your flooring should tick off:
- Solid and supportive
- Slip-resistant
- Comfortable to walk, lie, and sit on
- Non-absorbent
- Easy to clean
That’s Very Nice, But What’s The Best?
It really depends – you’re trying to choose the lesser of both evils here. But here are some excellent options to consider.
- Ceramic or Porcelain Tiles. Cold, but tough and easy to clean.
- Stone Tiles. Like ceramic and porcelain, but tougher.
- Linoleum. Hypoallergenic, easy to clean, and soft – but requires maintenance.
- Hardwood. Beautiful, tough, but slippery and stains easily.
- Laminate. Easy to replace if it gets stained, although it can also be slippery.
- Bamboo. Eco-friendly and easy to clean, in exchange for less durability.
- Cork. Inexpensive and soft – perhaps too soft, if your furniture is heavy.
You’ll have to pick the best choice for yourself depending on your heating capabilities, the size of your dog, and how much time and/or money you’re willing to invest in this. After all, the most important thing is that it works best for you!
