Pawel Kaluziak and his dog, Gucio, went for a walk across a wooded path not far from their home in Poland in early February. It is a familiar route for Gucio, so his father sometimes lets him wander more freely.
Gucio never wanders far from his father’s side, and he is always fast to return. However, on this particular day, he did not. Pawel became worried when Gucio did not show up after several minutes. Throughout the afternoon, Pawel searched, but Gucio was nowhere to be located. Despite his relentless quest, days turned into weeks with no sign of Gucio.
He requested his neighbors to keep an eye out as well, and he refused to relax till his dog would safely return home. However, he didn’t know that his dog was stuck in a situation from which he had no means of returning home.
It was a month when a man walked his Jack Russell terrier, Diego, around the same place where Gucio vanished when something caught Diego’s eye. Diego began yanking on his leash uncontrollably, eventually leading his father to a large pit in the terrain. Gucio was on the inside. He was frail, malnourished, and unable to bark, but Diego had spotted him just in time.
Diego’s father helped Gucio to safety and returned home with him. His wife identified the dog as the one Pawel had been searching for, so she called him to inform him of the great news.
For 32 days, Gucio had been stuck in the pit, making him fragile and vulnerable, but with his family’s help, he was able to overcome it.
He’d finally arrived home.
