We are so proud of K-9s and other working dogs who do so much for us every day, but the sad reality is for K-9 dogs like Jethro the German Shepherd Dog, sometimes things turn dangerous.
Jethro, was an officer in the Canton, OH K-9 unit. He responded to a call about a robbery on Saturday. Sadly, while searching the area, he was shot three times by an armed suspect. Police officers returned fire on the suspect, injuring his leg. He has since been treated and charged with “aggravated burglary, assaulting or harassing a police dog, felonious assault on a peace officer, having weapons under disability and shooting on or near a prohibited area.”
As for Jethro, although he was rushed to a veterinary hospital at the time of the incident, he sadly succumbed to his injuries and passed away the following day.
Jethro’s partner, Officer Ryan Davis, said in an interview earlier this week “There is no doubt in my mind that I am here because of what he did,” He also expressed that he feels as though a part of him is missing since the death of his dog. Davis said he got the dog when Jethro was just eight weeks old and the pair had been together ever since.
His fellow officers made this incredible tribute to their partner, who the Canton police chief said “saved officers’ lives” on Saturday.
