Homeless Man Refuses Home That Forces Him To Leave His Dog In Foster Care

Donald Dickerson is a man from North Carolina who is, unfortunately, experiencing homelessness. He is also in need of surgery, but can’t get that unless he has stable housing.

Recently, he was offered a chance to get a roof over his head, but he refused, as he would have had to foster his dog Duude. Dickerson told FOX8 that he named his dog Duude because that’s his dude. And whenever Duude looks at him, Dickerson knows he is loved. And for him, that’s worth more than a roof or getting the surgery he needs. Because of this, the pair are looking for shelter wherever they can, usually in the woods at a local campsite.

Dickerson was scheduled to get a partial knee-replacement surgery, but when the doctors found out he was homeless, they told him the surgery would have to be postponed until he would find housing. But Dickerson won’t accept housing unless he can take Duude with him, and so far he hasn’t been able to find a place like that.

Lane Miller is a citizen who had noticed Dickerson about a year ago. She was touched by seeing his smile, even through his mask. When she learned his story, she began reaching out to organizations and agencies, but unfortunately, she just hit brick walls. The only organization that is helping them is The Volunteering Center of the Triad. They are still working on getting more help, and have even set up a GoFundMe to try and raise a little bit of money for the pair.
