How These dogs React When Their Names Are Called Out Is Too Cute!

Our dog’s abilities to understand and react to our words is astounding, and it is an aspect to them that makes them all the more endearing. Interestingly, our dogs can learn and retain the meanings of various words based on the tone we say them in.

Regarding calling them by their names, there’s an interesting way that tone and body language come into play and this is exemplified in a trending video posted by a dog daycare centre. Dogtown is a dog day care centre in Virginia that has dedicated itself to being a fun and nurturing place for dogs outside their homes. Along with their daycare services, they provide grooming and boarding.

A typical day at the centre is filled with play aimed at providing a unique stimulating social experience. During one of their play times, caretakers at the centre took to social media to share clips of their dog’s reactions to hearing their names. As simple as it sounds, there’s a lot in a name and the videos prove just that. In the two videos posted the dogs can be seen jumping excitedly as each one of their names are called. They approach the camera with wagging tails and get a light pat from their caretaker, and step back slightly when another dog is called.

This reaction is not only amusing, but it brings to question whether dogs understand words or recognise tone. What’s interesting is that some dogs are better at understanding verbal language than others, and so they possess the ability to learn their names. Border collies are great at understanding verbal language so much so that a border collie named Chaser has the largest vocabulary of any known dog- boasting 1,022 nouns!
