How This Boy Helps Shelter Dogs Get Adopted Will Blow Your Mind!

For Darius Brown, making people smile was something he knew much about. When he was 8 years old, his sister taught him how to sew, and from there, he made cool bow ties for himself and even his friends.

In 2017, after Hurricane Irma hit Florida and Puerto Rico, Darius decided to take his sewing skills to a whole new level. He saw all the devastation that occurred and thought of all the ways he could help, and after seeing how many dogs and cats were left homeless, he knew exactly what to do.

Some of the animals that were affected were brought up to shelters around the country, and in New York City, 25 dogs were dropped off. Darius decided that he could use his skills and make his popular bow ties for the dogs, in hopes it would help them to be adopted. The staff absolutely loved this idea and took countless pictures of the dogs wearing the famed bow ties that Darius made.

He says that he thinks these bow ties are exactly what is needed to show a dog’s personality and that even the smallest touches could help these dogs get adopted. Four years later, Darius is still sewing things for animal shelters around the country, and has donated over 600 bow ties to dogs and cats in shelters. Every single tie is different, whether it be with polka dots, stripes, gems, or sequence, Darius makes them all different.

Staff at various shelters have said that older dogs have been adopted because of his ties, and thank him for giving the dogs and potential dog parents, something to smile about!
