Bowing (or sometimes referred to at stooping) is when you lower your torso and head, it is a social gesture and a sign of respect.
Bowing began in Japan sometime between 538 and 794 A.D., and it was a reflection of status. Today bowing has many more meanings, like congratulating someone, apologizing, saying thank you, or just to say hello or goodbye. Bowing may also convey emotions like respect, remorsefulness, or appreciation.
The Golden Retriever in the video below has been trained how to bow when he sees his momma! How adorable! First momma bows and then so does the dog! After that, there is the traditional ‘good dog’ praise and a kiss! After seeing this, it is clear that the dog is showing his momma a lot of love (and respect) and she shows it right back! Respect is something that is earned, these two have it in spades!
