Some breeds are often neglected because they are thought of as violent. They’re often left behind in shelters. One of these misunderstood breeds is the Pit Bull.
Papa and Bowman are two pit bulls who seemed to have been forgotten and destined to stay at the shelter forever. As every dog around them was getting adopted, they were caged in, waiting.
The adoption counselor at the shelter wasn’t willing to accept that the dogs were stuck in there forever. Joe King knew the dogs sensed what was going on and that they were distressed. He gave them personalized TLCs. He also showered them with attention, coming to the shelter to see them even if he had the day off.
The more he took care of them, the happier and healthier the dogs became. Joe made sure their mental health was taken care of. After a bit of attention, the dogs became visually less distressed. A happy dog is a dog more likely to get adopted.
He groomed them, made sure they have everything they need at the shelter. He gave them the publicity necessary to make people understand how amazing pit bulls are. He fought all misconceptions surrounding the breed and made sure all potential adoptive parents knew the truth about them. He let everyone know just how sweet, cuddly and loyal the boys are.
All that time spend over-hours paid off. The dogs both have orange cards on their cages, signaling that they are getting adopted. With some extra love and care, one person managed to change the lives of two lost souls.
