As soon as winter comes, you will have to keep your dog inside for longer than usual. The cold can be damaging for them, so you can’t afford to take several long walks a day.
But dogs need ways in which to consume their energy. So, if they can’t do it by walking, you need to find other ways to keep them entertained.
One of the most useful activities you can try is teaching your dog a new trick. Learning tricks can keep your dog stimulated, and it’s also a great bonding activity. Tricks also help with your dog’s discipline, so it will be much easier for you to communicate with them. Commands keep your dog sharp and engaged.
You can also try playing fetch. Of course, playing outside is much easier. But if you take all the necessary precautions, you can modify the game to fit indoor spaces. Just make sure you throw the ball softly and at a short distance. Your dog will love the game just as much as they love the outdoor version.
If hide and seek works to entertain humans, it can probably entertain your pooch, too. But you need to modify it, instead of you hiding, take a treat, show it to the dog, and hide that in another room. Your dog will be busy with the search, and they will get a nice reward at the end.
If your dog just wants to lie around all day, you should find a way to make them move around. Try holding a treat in your hand, and your dog will start following you around. This way, they’ll get a workout and they’ll spend more time with you.
