How To Stop Your Dog From Jumping On People?

Well, it’s not annoying to us when our dogs run and jump on us when we return home after a long day, isn’t it? But when it comes to other people, well it may scare them! No matter how much we enjoy these moments of love, we should understand that this behavior can harm us and our dogs. How?

Imagine you’re carrying a hot bowl of soup and your dog jumps on you? What happens then? You get hurt and your dog gets hurt too. We also need to know that dogs love being the center of attention and jumping on people gives them just that. So what can we do about this? If your dog is jumping on you to grab your attention, set aside 15 minutes every day to give your dog undivided attention. The time you spend with your dog should be consistent too, for example, if you set aside 15 minutes at 4 pm, don’t change the time.

Your dog jumps on people simply because he’s extremely excited and wants to burn some extra energy. Chances are your dog is bored and so when people come by he jumps on them out of excitement, so keep your dogs busy whenever possible by giving them food puzzles, games and toys to play with.

The best way to stop your dog from jumping on people is to ignore the behavior and not react when it happens. Teach your dog that rolling over or sitting down when you or other people enter the house will be rewarded, but jumping will be ignored. Always reward good behavior!
