The Humane Society of the United States along with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office rescued nearly 300 dogs and puppies early March this year from a property in Madison County, Arkansas.
According to the sheriff, the dogs and puppies (some of which were German shepherds, boxers, poodles, and chihuahuas) were living in horrible conditions in their own filth without any clean food or water. The 67 year old owner of the suspected puppy mill called Joyce Johnson surrendered the animals to the sheriff’s office and is currently facing two counts of animal cruelty.
According to Amanda Gossom with the Humane Society, “They’re living in their own feces, most of them don’t really have solid flooring so most have very long nails and when they’re living on wired crates you can imagine the type of things their feet are going through. We’ve seen several matted dogs and really just neglect and cruelty in the conditions that they’re living in.”
The dogs have been taken to an emergency animal shelter where they are all being examined and receiving medial treatment. Rescue Bank is providing food and medical supplies for the animals at the temporary shelter. You may be familiar with Rescue Bank – this is the organization we donate to for every purchase made through our shop. We are proud to support Rescue Bank and are so glad they are helping these poor dogs and puppies get the food and supplies they so desperately need! If you want to help feed these dogs, you can help us support them here.
Word has it one they are all vetted and healthy enough, they will go to rescue groups across the country where they will look for forever homes.
