It is amazing just to what a pup will do just to have a treat! It really forms the bond of positive reinforcement in training, since this is the reward most commonly used.
We guess it is hard to ignore instant gratification after all, especially when it seems to be easily accessible through following through wanted behaviours!
Of course sometimes, pups aren’t even trained to behave a certain way for treats! There is a long list of behaviour that falls under the category of begging. At least, assuming you haven’t accidentally trained them to beg in a certain way for treats, which is definitely a situation that could have happened!
Winston the Dachshund pup has coincidentally learned that if he sits on his hind legs (in other words, so-called “stand”), he may get a treat! He certainly is an impatient pup, however – just listen to him whine when he hasn’t been given the treat already!
