Is There a Way to Stop Your Neighbor's Dog From Barking Excessively?

Everyone who has even been near a dog knows that they all bark because that’s how they communicate. But everyone has also had that one neighbor whose dog never seems to stop barking.

So, is there anything you can do to make your neighbor’s dog chill out?

The first step you need to take is to talk to your neighbor. Chances are, they might be gone a lot and they might not notice how much their dogs bark. You need to remember that there’s no need to get mad at the dog. The only reason they would bark that much is if they haven’t been trained properly. So, the main person who can solve the issue is the owner.

Don’t go there throwing around accusations. It’s not that easy to train a dog, and your neighbor might be working on it. All you can do is try to help them out. Maybe even suggest babysitting their dogs when they are away if that’s something you can do.

Some dogs bark because they are territorial and they see other dogs lurking around their territory. In that case, you can ask their parent to block their view while they are away so that the dog doesn’t have a reason to start barking. They could also get startled by your presence, so it’s a good idea to get to know them.

If you make friends with them, they will be more open to having you around, and they won’t try to scare you away by barking. And, as a last resort, use a dog whistle, or even consider filing a noise complaint.
