In an ideal world, rescue dogs wouldn’t have to wait around for months for someone to adopt them. Ideally, they would get a new home in no time. But, in reality, that doesn’t happen often.
Charlie is just one of the dogs who have been waiting around for too long. In fact, he has been stuck in a shelter for almost a year. He was rescued by the RSPCA from a hoarding situation. Together with 44 other dogs, he was living in horrible conditions. He is naturally very shy, but the environment he was in made him scared and anxious.
He had never even been outside before being rescued. So, when he first arrived at the rescue, he wasn’t very comfortable. He didn’t move from the corner of his kennel for over a month. Because of his past, he wasn’t used to doing normal dog things, like going on a walk. He needed a lot of time and care to adjust to his new life.
The volunteers at the rescue offered him all the support he needed, and every day Charlie got a little less scared. Four months after being rescued, he gathered the courage to go outside for the first time in his life. Almost a year later, Charlie has grown into a happy and healthy dog. While he still gets nervous from time to time, he is definitely more confident.
He doesn’t do well in new surroundings, but if he gets time and support, he can adjust. He loves to explore the world, and he is one of the most loving dogs you could ever meet. He loves cuddles and kisses, and he would make the perfect addition to a family.
Ideally, that would be an adult-only family that won’t overstimulate him, and a home with a big yard would be nice for him too.
